Passau (pop. 55,000) lies on the confluence of the rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz and must be regarded as one of the prettiest German towns. The Baroque-style St. Stephan Cathedral in the historical centre boasts the biggest church organ in the world. High up above the town and the rivers stands the Castle "Veste Oberhaus" with an excellent museum for Medieval History. Passau is the southern gateway to the Bavarian Forest National Park.
