Düsseldorf (pop. 570.000) – state capital of North Rhine Westphalia – is one of the most cosmopolitan, creative and modern cities of Germany. Eighteen museums, 100 major art galleries, the German Opera House, the famous “Schauspielhaus” theatre, the perfect synthesis of classic and modern architecture, the beautiful historic “Altstadt” with more than 250 pubs, clubs and restaurants and a vibrant nightlife scene place this elegant metropolis on the Rhine River on plenty of travellers’ lists. Düsseldorf is the centre of Germany’s high fashion industry, advertising and media industry and tele-communications and is regarded as one of the most prosperous German cities. It houses the largest inland port in the world including the famous Gehry buildings and the spectacular Media Harbour. Its International Airport north of the city is the 3rd biggest airport in Germany and an important European hub.

Altstadt
Düsseldorf’s old quarter is famous for its nightlife. Numerous pubs, cafés, restaurants as well as boutiques are lined up along the narrow lanes. The centrepiece is the “Rathaus” 


(Town Hall) from 1573 on the Marktplatz.

Königsallee
The “Kö” is one of the world’s most elegant shopping boulevards. Düsseldorf’s annual fashion fair – attracting the most famous designers to Düsseldorf every year – guarantees that the shop windows always display the latest trends.

Rhine Riverbank Promenade
The “Rheinufer Promenade” is the perfect place for a strolling, relaxing and seeing and being seen. It connects the Old Town and the Rhine and offers a magnificent view, attractive restaurants and pubs. It is the starting-place for panoramic cruises on the Rhine river.

K20 and K21 Art Galleries
North Rhine-Westphalia Art Collections are among the most highly-regarded museums of 20th and 21st century art. Prestigious Picasso, Chagall, Modigliane and Paul Klee collections amongst numerous other collections.

Benrath Castle
“Schloss Benrath” – 10 km south of the city – is one of the finest examples of Rococo architecture with a nearly 150-acre park and the new Museum of European Garden Art
